OUTREACH NATURALIST INTERNSHIP: A temporary, full-time position. Pay: $800 per month plus room and board. Dates: June 4–August 16, 2008.

Location: Trees For Tomorrow, Eagle River, Wisconsin.

Qual: Minimum of junior status in a natural resources, environmental education, outdoor education, biology, or other related field. Internship credits can be earned. Previous programming experience with children, families, and/or adults. Valid driver’s license. Excellent communication skills with a variety of audiences and in a variety of situations including hikes, campfires, interactive lectures, active events, and slide presentations. Duties: ACES Summer Naturalists receive valuable education, training, and experience while conducting natural history interpretive tours and children’s environmental education programs. These programs take place at Hallam Lake Nature Preserve, Aspen Mountain, the Maroon Bells, Snowmass, and at the ghost town of Ashcroft.  In addition, Summer Naturalists serve an important role in ACES’ raptor rehabilitation program by teaching bird of prey programs to the public.  Naturalists will gain knowledge of the local flora and fauna and have the opportunity to inspire the public in a beautiful natural setting.

The Summer Naturalist is responsible for assisting full-time staff with all aspects of The Ridges Sanctuary's educational programming. Location: Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, Lanesboro, Minnesota.

Qual: Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, have First Aid and CPR certifications, experience working with kids (preferably in outdoor and/or environmental education settings), and a BA or BS degree in a related field. Preferred, but not required qualifications include Firearms Safety certification, lifeguarding, First Responder, and a background/interest in natural history, ecology, hunting, fishing, camping, and adventure education.

Duties: Eagle Bluff is a private, non-profit environmental education center located in Southeastern Minnesota. Summer naturalists will teach a variety of classes, including canoeing, rock climbing, and tree tops. Groups vary in size and are primarily comprised of kids. Co-coordination of select summer camps and the supervision of campers are other major responsibilities of the summer naturalist position. Based upon a rotating schedule, summer naturalists will also act as an overnight liaison for groups in residence. Other responsibilities include assisting in other areas as needed by our ever growing, private, non-profit organization. Summer naturalists will have the opportunity to gain teaching experience in a residential setting and learn outdoor skills.
