VIRGINIA PROGRAM COORDINATOR: A permanent, full-time position. Pay: Low to mid $30k range.

Location: The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Richmond, Virginia.

Qual: Candidates must possess a general knowledge of Chesapeake Bay environmental issues, nonpoint source pollution issues and conservation practices in Virginia.  Experience and demonstrated skills in public outreach and event planning, meeting facilitation, and training are required.  Candidates must have program management skills and experience, including working in the non-profit sector.  This position involves working with staff of regional non-profits, scientists, Virginia and federal agency personnel, and citizen volunteers.  The position requires excellent communication skills.  Candidates must be energetic, organized and enjoy collaborating on multi-partner projects. Excellent computer skills are necessary: experience with databases, graphics programs, GIS, and web-interfaces are a plus.  Occasional travel within the multi-state Chesapeake Bay watershed is necessary, as well as some weekend work during spring and fall restoration seasons.  A college degree in Environmental Science or related field is required. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the growth of the organization through identifying and pursuing appropriate sources of financial support; networking with various organizations, agencies, and committees; and assisting in the internal management of the Alliance’s related development program.  Demonstrated and successful grant writing experience is required.

Duties: A qualified person to strategically plan and coordinate conservation landscaping and urban tree planting projects; water quality monitoring projects; facilitate volunteer involvement and conduct outreach activities in our Richmond, Virginia office.

PROJECT COORDINATOR: A permanent, full-time position. Pay: $10,000 - $30,000.

Location: The Graduation Pledge Alliance, Waltham, Massachusetts.

Qual: Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Duties: The Graduation Pledge Alliance (GPA) is seeking a National Coordinator starting August of 2007. The Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility states, "I Pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organization for which I work." Students at over a hundred colleges and universities internationally have used the Pledge in varying ways. Some of the schools involved include research institutions such as Harvard University and Stanford University, as well as liberal arts schools such as Middlebury College and Manchester College. Depending upon funding, the position will either be as an intern ($10,000 salary) or as a professional ($30,000 – 35,000 range), with concomitant expectations. If the position is maintained as an internship, the candidate would likely be working in Indiana, where supervision would take place. If maintained as a professional position, there would be flexibility in determining the geographical location.  These details will be clarified over the next several weeks. Basic assignments include: Overseeing implementation of the GPA's strategic plan. Working with campus chapters, Pledge centers, Advisory and Executive Boards Building relationships with other organizations having complementary projects. Overseeing media and other publicity outreach. Overseeing both GPA websites and working in collaboration with the webmaster. Producing roughly ten Pledge updates a year to be sent out to chapter organizers. Attending relevant conferences or events where the GPA could be promoted.
