NATURE PROGRAMS ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER: A permanent, full-time position. Pay: $42,300 - $47,000. Dates: Start April 2008.

The environmental education and adventure recreation programs include offerings for school, private and public groups, special events, six-week class series and a large summer day camp program.  The position also includes some assisting with education programs by instructing activities such as environmental education programs, high ropes, teambuilding, and climbing as needed.

Duties: The Aldo Leopold Nature Center is seeking an energetic, experienced and organized individual to serve as Program Coordinator for its growing organization. The Nature Center is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to delivering hands-on, outdoor environmental education in the spirit of Aldo Leopold to youth groups, adult groups and the public. Based in Monona and Black Earth, WI, the Nature Center offers programs that serve over 25,000 individuals annually. Reporting to the Nature Center Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all Nature Center Education Programs including: scheduling programs with clients and Naturalist staff, recruiting and following-up with clients; billing; managing program and participant database; and attendance tracking. COMMUNITY CONSERVATION COORDINATOR: A permanent, full-time position.

Location: The Trustees of Reservations, Land Conservation Department, Massachusetts.

Qual: Commitment to the conservation mission of The Trustees of Reservations. Bachelors or Masters degree in natural resource management,

regional planning or related field, preferably with three years related work experience in land conservation and/or community organizing;

demonstrated organizing skills, communication (writing and public speaking), negotiation, leadership, project management, interpersonal, and

protection priorities within the Narragansett Bay and Lower Taunton River watersheds, with a focus on the communities of Seekonk, Rehoboth,

Fall River, Dighton, Freetown and Berkley, in consultation with local land trusts and municipalities. Oversee the conservation of priority

properties in the work area in partnership with local land trusts, municipalities, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and other partners. Support

local efforts to raise private and public funding for individual land protection projects and related conservation initiatives. The Conservation

Coordinator will identify conservation and capacity-building opportunities through outreach to landowners and community leaders; and will

manage individual land conservation projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities for this exempt position include cultivating local

grassroots support for conservation efforts, meeting with landowners, organizing outreach events, drafting conservation agreements, securing

financing for land protection projects, and assisting in associated ballot measures and fundraising campaigns. In addition, the Coordinator is

Duties: Stewardship inspires understanding and connection with place. OWLT’s stewardship goals include sustainable, native plant

communities and incorporate an ecosystem and volunteer based approach to restoration and conservation. OWLT’s stewardship efforts use

adaptive management practices, with regular assessment and adjustment as necessary. In addition to leading land management, maintenance and

restoration on SNA’s, the Stewardship Technician will recruit, engage, build and train a volunteer base for long term management of SNA’s. The

Stewardship Technician will work with local organizations, individuals and businesses to integrate volunteer involvement, education and

Duties: Sustain the NPS319-funded Damariscotta Lake Watershed Management Plan Implementation Project (2001-2006) beyond the life of the Project.  Your work will manage the Damariscotta Lake Volunteer Lake Monitoring program, coordinate the existing volunteer Watershed Response Team to identify and respond to undocumented erosion and sedimentation problems, and assist with recruiting and training an invasive aquatic “plant patrol” on the lake.  Other projects include working with the Maine Stream Team program and local conservation commissions to initiate stewardship of specific tributaries and survey streams, as well as assisting with the planning and implementation of the annual “Water Wonder Day” for elementary school students.  You may also work with the Committee chairperson to coordinate the Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program.  You will present a power-point collaboration with Maine NEMO (LaMarr Cannon, Nonpoint Source Education for Municipal Officials). LAND AND ESTATE MANAGER IN AN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY: Two (2) permanent, full-time positions. Pay: Room and board, stipend of $170 per month, health insurance after 3 months, $850 in vacation funds over one year. Qual: Land and Estate Crew Leader: Must have 2-5 years of work experience, a degree in a related field, or other technical training in the area of land work, estate care, or gardening. Experience with organic gardening or biodynamic gardening is highly preferred. Land and Estate Crew Assistant: Must have some prior experience with land work, estate care, or gardening. Both positions: Must be at least 21 years old, in good physical and emotional health, and must be able to speak and read English well. Duties: We have positions available for both a Land and Estate Manager, and for assistants to the land crew. Manage our 50-acre estate. Our estate includes over 200 fruit trees (apples and some peaches), an acre of berry bushes, a 1/4 acre vegetable garden with 14 raised beds, 7 beef cows, and lawns and meadows. The land crew also makes compost, rakes leaves, maintains gardens, prepares firewood, burns brush, clears snow, and maintains fences and pathways in the community. All land work is done using organic, and often biodynamic, methods. The Land and Estate Manager will be responsible for having an overview of the land care needs on campus, and organizing and working with crews of 5-7 people, including students and community members with disabilities. Assistants will be members of the land crew. The Land and Estate Crew meets approximately five times per week, 2-3 hours per session. The Land and Estate Manager will also have planning and reporting responsibilities. Our organization is a Camphill community which provides continuing education for young adults with intellectual disabilities in a community setting. All support staff ("coworkers") live on campus in households with other coworkers and people with disabilities. The Land and Estate Manager and assistant positions are also coworker positions, so your role would include other areas beyond landwork. We would expect that 50% of your time would go towards land work, and 50% of your time would go towards general coworking in a household. As a member of a household, you would be living with other coworkers and with students or community members with disabilities. You would be providing direct care support to one or two students or community members with disabilities, and participating in general household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and basic maintenance. You would be asked to provide emotional and social support for the people with disabilities, and actively support their well-being. Camphill Soltane, like other Camphill communities, has its spiritual foundation in Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy. Among other things, this manifests itself through care and attention for the seasons and major festivals throughout the year, and an emphasis on sustainable living.
