Hiring Strategies that Work

We encourage face to face contact between a student and a company representative through a process of company presentations and interviews.  Every student planning to interview is required to have a resume that is available to the recruiter before the interview.

A new company trying to develop name recognition might consider setting up a table in the lobby of the Dining Hall to distribute company information and meet students as they come and go during the noon meal time (about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)  This can be an effective way to reach out to students to promote your company and the presentation.

Presentations

All companies are encouraged to give a presentation.  Presentations are normally schedule at 4 p.m. (1600) and 7 p.m. (1900) Monday through Thursday (except campus holidays.)  A company presentation generally lasts from 30 to 60 minutes depending upon the presenter.

The value of the presentation is that every candidate intending to interview hears the same information and has an opportunity to ask questions.  This leaves the interview time for what it was intended  -  a productive interchange of information about the candidate (interviewing and talking, if you will.)   Every year new students who have never heard a presentation about your company will be in the audience.  Some of these students may not be familiar with your company or your particular division of the company.

We encourage all students from all majors to attend every presentation.  Seniors interested in being considered for employment following their graduation will obviously be in the audience.  Some of the students in the audience may be interested in co-oping with your company.  Others may be underclassmen researching your company prior to their senior year.

    Interviews

Interviews are scheduled at the employers discretion from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday (except during campus holidays.)

At the end of the day when all is said and done, it comes down to people talking face to face and shaking hands to seal their agreement.  Integrity is the most important quality a recruiter has to offer any candidate.
